Homework 7
1. The surroundings of an object make up its value, thus it is relative.
2. A high contrast makes a works readability clearer, which is important to commercial artists.
3. Value can suggest where a light source is coming from giving the illusion of volume, space and depth.
4. There are three different devices to show depth one-point perspective, two-point perspective and three point perspective.
5. A vanishing point and a horizon line must be present in order to understand linear perspective.
6. One-point perspective has only one vanishing point, where as two point perspective has two.
7. one-point perspective is what we usually see in photography, because usually our eyes only go to one focal point at a time.
8. Use depth when you are trying to communicate space, when you do not want to communicate space do not use depth.

Homework 5
- What kind of lines can communicate motion? Stability? Energy?
- Why are human beings able to see "implied" lines?
- How might a graphic designer use lines differently than a fine artist?
- How is visual rhythm different than musical rhythm?
- What must be present for rhythm to exist?
1. Diaganal lines can communicate motion, horizantal lines can communicate stability and vertical lines can communicate energy.
2. Humans are able to see "implied" lines, for we like to see unity around us.
3. A graphic designer may want to usse more dinamic lines than a fine artist would.
4. Visual rhythm is created through a repitition of lines or images. Musical rhythm is created through meter and tempo.
5. repitition must be present for rhythm to exist.

Homework 4
- How is visual weight different than physical weight?
- What happens to objects when they get close to the edges of a composition?
- Why are human beings more comfortable with balanced compositions?
- What happens when there is imbalance?
- Is there a place for purposeful imbalance? Give some examples.
- Why is symmetrical balance so popular in architecture?
- Can different types of balance be used in a single composition?
- How many ways are there to achieve asymmetrical balance? Name them.
- Is radial balance always symmetrical? Why or why not?
- 1. Visual weight is different than physical weight in that pysical weight can be weighed with some kind of scale, where as visual weight cannot be. 2. When objects get close to the edges of a compsition the images become more unstable.
-
3. Human beings are more comfortable with balance in that we like our lives to balanced. Balance also can give off a calming effect which humans tend to like.
4. When there is an imbalance in an art work then the work becomes chaotic.
5. There is a purpose for imbalance, such as when you are trying to make a person feel uneasy or confused.
6. Symmetrical balance is so popular in architecture because they want their buildings to be stable.
7. Differant types of balance can be used in a single composition.
8. There are many ways to achieve asymetrical balance such as using a large shape close to the center and a small shape is placed away from the center, multiple shapes that are together can balance out a larger shape, a solid image can balance out a transparent image, and finally different textrues can balance eachother out.
9. Radial balance is not always symmetrical, if a spiral variant is used in a picture then the result is not symmetrical.

GDS Homework 3
- Why is it important to design the positive and the negative shapes of a composition?
- What is the difference between representational shapes and abstract shapes?
- What are some of the ways emphasis can be achieved?
- What kind of subjects attracts attention?
- What happens when there are too many focal points?
- Why is emphasis important, especially for graphic designers?
- Which is more important: a strong focal point or unity?
2. A representational shape is a shape that you have visual observed. A abstract shape is also a shape that you have observed but you then warp the shape so that it no longer looks like it originally did
3. Emphasis can be achieved through isolation, placement or contrast.
4. An anomaly can attract attention as well as any representation of a human especially a human face.
5. Too many focal points in a piece can cause confusion in the work, the viewer would not know where to look and would get overwhelmed.
6. Emphasis allows the piece to work together and commands the viewers attention.
7. Both a strong focal point and unity are needed to create a work of art or a presentation.

Nicole Denhart
2. I began my kindergarten year there, then moved to Urbana for 3 years before moving back to St. Joe again. Where I graduated from High-School. After which I went to Parkland College for 2 years and got my Associates in General Science. But finding work with such a general degree was next to impossible for me. So now here I am back at school to see if I can get a degree and a career that I will be happy with for the rest of my life, here's hoping.
But before the career and before Parkland, during High-School I found out that I like to have a study guide with me while I read the material, not just skim through the pages, before class then ask questions during class. While I attended Parkland College for the first time also found that good video aids also help me to learn the material quicker.
3. Speaking of videos I can't say that I have a favorite film (there are to many to mention) I do have 2 favorite bands though. One is Within Temptation and the other is Nightwish.
4. Back on topic during my first year at Parkland College I began to get quite comfortable with E-Mails, the internet, Microsoft works, Microsoft word; excel and power point. Though any other types of programs are Greek to me.
5. On a totally different topic (yet again) the picture of me was taken while I was at a friends church function.
